week 2
Weekly Letter - 29 Jul 2013
Dear President Lovell,
Miracles are happening here in Zapala! I feel so blessed to be apart of what is happening here. The people here are great and ready to hear this message. Elder Yanez and I are really trying to work hard and reach the standards of our area. Because of that goal we have seen miracles this week. One of those miracles was saturday. On sat we fasted for our district and our area. We tried really hard to set up appointments with members. Our first lesson we taught a part member and menos active family with a member from the ward. The lesson started off ruff because the family said their not sure if they believe in all the rules. We talked about the power of the book of mormon and with the testimony of the member we brought, we were able to put 2 fetchas with the boyfriend and son. next, we taught a man, segundo who has a date, and his whole family. we brought a member with us again and were able to put a date with the granddaughter, who by the end of the lesson, defender the church haha. next, we taught another lesson with a member and put a date with an elderly woman named maria whos husband died about two years ago. the lesson was so powerful. and to end that day we had another member present and put two more dates with liliana and her son carlos. basically
what im trying to say is that there are miracles here in zapala and miracles when we teach with members! Im doing really good. Trying to get over homesickness but every missionary feels that. Thnak you so much for the story in the letter today. Im going to print it out so i can read it when ever i have a hard morning. Elder Yanez and i are trying to be 100 percent obedient and work together. Thank you so much for such a great companion. We will reach the weekly standard!

first week in argentina
hola!
sorry this is going to be without caps because this keyboard is weird. i dont have i ton of time because ive spent a lot of time trying to figure out everything on this computer. so im in argentina and it is way different. castallano is different than im used to but im trying to get the hang of it. my new companion is from santiago chile and doesnt speak a lot of english so all we speak is spanish. he is really nice and we can converse really well. oh, and he has only been out on a mission a little of 3 months. haha so its like we are trainging each other which is really cool. right now im serving in zapala which is south of the ciry neuquen. so i dont have a ton of time but i want to share a miracle. so elder yañez and i were out contacting people and it was about 8pm and freezing (it is so cold here. this morning our shower head was frozen haha). we needed to find someone and try to go inside because we were about to die haha. we said a prayer that we could know what to do and be guided to find someone. after the prayer the first hous we knocked on we talked to a lady named liliana. we didnt go inside but we had a lesson outside her door and she excepted to be baptized. talk about awesome! elder yañez and i were basically leaping for joy after. the area i am is a rough area but i keep telling my comp that we will see miracles through 100 percent obedience. and we have been working out tails off these last 3 days we hav ebeen in zapala. in 3 days we got 5 baptismal dates but 2 of them we have to turn over to other missionaries because they live outside our area and they were in our area when we met them. i love the work haha. hard work and miracles! i love you all and hope all is well! cantWeekly Letter - 22 Jul 2013
Dear President Lovell,
i hope you dont mind if i dont write with caps. this computer is a little different and i can write very fast doing caps (caps button is on the right side instead of the left). i also hope you dont mind if i write in english. sorry. life is good down here in zapala. im not going to lie, it is a bit of a culture shock. although im trying to learn, i know the only way to find true happiness is just work, work, work. i love elder yañez and am so grateful to be working with him. he is a very humble man who loves to work. im trying to be as obedient as possible and i feel like i have hundreds of questions but i know everything is going to be ok. i just dont want to accidentally mess up. so we have done a lot of work these last few days and im trying to learn the area
fast. two people that i can think of that we are going to invite to be baptized are bruno and the husband and son of liliana. bruno is a joven but really likes the church and his dad has a fetcha. all we need to do is talk with him, bring the spirit, and put a fetcha. liliana is an investigator we met that was really receptive to the church. she has a fetch but we need to try and put fetchas with her son and husband. i know that zapala is where im supposed to be and i am so excited to see miracles here. thank you so much for everything and elder yañez and i will keep sister Lovell in our prayers. i love it here and wouldnt want to be anywhere else in the world!

Happy late 4th
Dear Everyone,
I hope that everyone had a great fourth of july! Things down here in the south are going pretty darn good. As always, spanish is going good. Teaching is a blast. The food is great. The cockroaches are fantastic (I dont think I ever mentioned that there are cockraoches.....everywhere! haha). Mom I put your birthday present in the mail along with a some other stuff. Sorry that took so long. So this past week has been crazy. We talk to a Pentacostal pastor who had read half of the book of mormon and told us we were false. It wasnt the funnest experience ever but its all good. We actually had him read Mosiah 10:3-5 and I felt the spirit come in as he read it and I testified that this was true and that he had felt something different as he read. His face changed a little and he looked at Elder Porter and I and told us that we had gifts of the holy ghost and a desire to preach and should join his church. We said no that we could not deny the truthfullness of the book of mormon and this message. The whole conversation I believed that something we would say would change his heart but it didnt. It was one of those experiences where I was reminded that everyone has there agency. This week i was able to go on exchanges with Elder Evans from Nevada which meant I got to ride a bike again:). We actually were riding our bikes and passed some guy and Elder Evans stopped to talk to him (I accidentally ran into him because he stopped so abruptly haha). We talked to him on the side of the road and committed him to baptism right there which was awesome. Later that same day we had a lesson with a lady named teri and her son tez. I dont remember if I told you about them but they literally have the exact same story as me. Terri was with a guy who ended up stealing her 3 kids from her and she didnt get them back until about a year ago (over 10 years). Terri is going to be baptized but Tez said no because he feels like God has made him suffer in his life. The lesson was really great and I was able to share a lot about what had happened to me with Tez to help him out. I want to check with my mission president and see if I can give you Terri's address, mom, because I thought of you. So the 4th of July was pretty festive. Elder Porter and I put an American flag in our car and gave out cookies to families in our area. Not to many Hispanics are to pumped about the 4th of July haha. It actually rained just about the whole day on the rain which I didnt mind because I love the rain. We actually talked a lot with the leaders in our branch because we literally have to revamp the whole branch. We have to get all the lideres on the same page with the ward mission process because our ward mission lider hasnt really done that (but that's ok because we have the help of Heavenly Father!). So the coolest thing happened the other day...we found an investigator of ours after about 3 weeks or more of not being able to find or get a hold of her. We went to her work and she said she was sorry and was really busy these ppast few weeks. We taught her a quick lesson and asked if she still wanted to be baptized...she said YES. We asked why and she basically said becuse it will help her. Talk about miracles after miracles. Quick thing: we had dinner with a member names Hno Aguinada. He is the most humble man ever. We asked him what he wanted before he went back home to his family in El Salvador and all he wants is to share his testimony with those that have fallen away from the church in our branch. I just about cried right there. Such a righteous desire and sweet humble man. I know that there is power in love. I testify that we can love those around us through the help of our Savior. Missionary work does not end when my two years are up. This is a life long thing that I am so happy to be a part of. Find time to go teach with the missionaries or invite them to teach in home with an investigator. I testify that you will be blessed in so many ways. I love you all and testify that there are people waiting to hear this gospel all around us.Weekly Letter - 08 Jul 2013
Dear President Harding,
Life as a missionary is some great stuff! I think everyday of how I'm making memories and stories for the rest of my life. I want to commit to you to be exactly obedient in all that i do. I know and truly believe that through hard work and obedience we all can see miracles. I love obedience. I love D&C 82:10 because it tells us that if we are obedient, Heavenly Father will always fulfill his promises. So I have seen a lot of miracles through obedience already. From trying to keep track with the mission in the book of Mormon I have learned so much and felt the love of Heavenly Father far greater in life. Also, I will come across scriptures that I end up using or sharing with other people we are teaching throughout the day. It's some cool stuff. I can testify that a powerful morning makes a powerful day. I always tell people that they do not have to go through life alone. We have have so much that Heavenly Father has given is. When I'm an obedient missionary, I know that i do no have to be alone with my teaching. When we ask people to be baptized, we are asking them to be obedient. The only way to commit people to be obedient is to be obedient ourselves. So I commit to be obedient and stand as a representative of Jesus Christ at all times and in all places. I commit to be obedient and not just wait for miracles but go find them.

Love y'all
Dear Everyone,
Sorry about my short letters but Im going to step up my game. So this last week has been really busy, fun, hard, and just plain ol awesome. Everyday as a missionary is awesome! Last monday i ate at this cajun cooking place.....lets just say I died and went to heaven. It was my first time eating some southern food out here becuase i mainly eat a lot of mexican food...which i love to death. I find that I cant eat anything without salsa. I need to have some spicy salsa with almost all my food. I love the spicy stuff!!! All the members laugh and are shocked but say its becuase of my mexican blood ahah. During the week I went on exchanges with one of my best friends out here, Elder Webster. He's and english speaking bike missionary so I got to go speak with some southern folk and ride a bike which i loved. The bike is way more fun than the car. I was kind of wakward at first and fell like twice...actually, almost fell, but elder webster almost got hit by a car so I guess Im ok haha. So cool story. Elder porter and I went on split with some members to teach. I went with a member named Daniel to go teach a new family we met. We go to there house and no one is there and it starts to rain really bad. So we dicide to run to another house. On the way we see the other family inside their van outside their house and go sit in it with them (they told us to get in and get away from the rain). Daniel and I sat in the car outside their house (still have no idea why they were hanging out in their car with their 5 kids....) and taught them about the Resturracion (cant spell it anymore in english). In the car their was an annoying noise the whole time and the kids were messing around, oh and outside it was raining like the second coming with lighting flashing every couple mins.....it was so coooool:)))) All I kept thinking was what Uncle Beau told me, (this is what a mission is!) I was so pumped. I felt like I had drank to much mountain dew or something. The lesson was good and they actually came to church on sunday. Oh quick note on the family: in our very first lesson with them we found out the wife was baptised in the church 13 years ago but hasnt gone to church in awhile and her husband and kids arent members...the church is true! OHHHHH so I moved appartments and have a new address. DO NOT SEND THINGS TO MY OLD ADDRESS. SEND THEM TO THE MISSION OFFICE UNTIL I REMEMBER TO WRITE DOWN MY NEW ADDRESS AND SEND IT TO YALL. LOVE YOU. So really quick, I met a lady who's fiance was killed by a drunk driver the day before her wedding back in 2007...talk about the saddest thing ever. She's a musician named Paris Lewis and is really nice. I did the other day and literally went Lumber Jack -Mode for an hour and chopped down and out a tree stump. Talk about a firm foundation (oh how firm a foundation). The picture below is elder webster and I with a sticker that says "Believe in your flyness"...got to love life:). Anyways, there are so many more crazy stories I could share but dont have time so Ill tell you next week or in 2 years...they both are right around the corner. seriously, time on your mission goes by so fast it is crazy. On July 13 I'll have been out for 4 months. Just know I'm having a blast and I love you all. Thank you all so much for the letters and the prayers. Pray for Niki and her comp. There is nothing in the world I would rather be doing right now than serve the lord. Love you all! Oh, please find out where from mexico our fam is from.Weekly Letter - 01 Jul 2013
Dear President Harding,
This past week has been good. It was hard to complete all we wanted to do because we had to move apartments but still great. I am so grateful for my relationship with my Father in Heaven. All I want in this life is to become the man He wants me to be. Honestly, that is my biggest fear too. I'm scared I wont fulfill what He wants. But besides that, I can honestly say that I have felt a greater joy in my life as I have come unto Him. I know He is watching out for me and trying to help me serve with all my heart, might, mind, and soul. He has so much trust in us it is amazing. I myself am so imperfect but He has allowed me to share this gospel with my brothers and sisters. He has so much faith and love for us I cant even comprehend it. It is that love we are trying to learn to have out here on the mission. I know I will not fully reach my capabilities without my Father in Heaven. He knows what is best for us. All we need to do is take His help. I am so gratful for knowledge of this gospel. I am so grateful to have felt the love of my Heavenly Father in my life. I'm going to work hard now so that I can one day live with Heavenly Father and my family for eternity.
